Filter Menu

feature

You can use the filter menu to filter by Tags or by detected data types on a view. You can also set different grouping options to see your tasks in a different configuration, or to hide upcoming items.

Hide Upcoming

Hide Upcoming keeps future work out of the way until it is ready to show. On Lists, Spaces, Tags, and Launchpad, Hide Upcoming hides stuff with future Plans. On Today, it hides Tasks with reminder times that are still in the future while keeping Tasks with no reminder time visible.

Filtering and Excluding Tags

By default, tapping the names of Tags on the Filter Menu will filter that view to only show stuff with the selected tags (see Tags). In Settings, you can also turn on “Filters Toggle Exclusion”. With this setting, tapping Tags on the Filter Menu will switch between three modes: None, Include, and Exclude. Exclude mode on a filter will hide stuff that has that given tag.

Filtering by Detected Data Type

In addition to Tags, the Filter Menu also lets you filter by detected data types. Stuff automatically detects data like email addresses, phone numbers, URLs, and physical addresses within your tasks (see Data Detection). On views that support this filter, you can narrow your tasks down to only those containing a specific type of detected data. For example, you could filter to see only tasks that contain a phone number - handy when you need to make a batch of calls - or only tasks with links you need to follow up on.

Grouping Options

Tasks can be grouped in certain ways depending on your interface. Currently, Lists and Spaces have default groupings that cannot be changed (Lists group by Heading, Spaces group by schedule). On Today, Tasks can be grouped by None (all tasks are inline with each other), or by Space and List (tasks are divided into sections based on which list or space they’re in).
